The theme of the 24th Women Make Waves Film Festival Rave in Peace stands for these words. Via collaging colorful images of women cuddling, contemplating and showing their humor and creativity, this year’s artwork tries to convey a message of strength and beauty in the face of women humorously confronting the plights of life.
The theme Rave in Peace also echoes with the issues the 24th WMWFF is focused on.
The Entangled Dance discusses the struggle between caregivers and care-takers. In recent years, long-term care issues have aroused widespread attention. As long as the relationship between care-giving and receiving exists, intimacy and contradiction between the two can not be avoided.
At the same time, WMWFF attempts to lift some of the sexual fetters imposed on women. Xposed: Eroticism as Subversion is going to present teasing and challenging visual experiences to the audience, the films decompose and reanalyze the orgasm between erotica and pornography.
Promoting gender equality has always been the core motive power of WMW Film Festival. There’s Always A Woman gathers all kinds of heartfelt female stories, strives to stand up for women’s rights to think and to speak.
Beyond Queerness challenges all those askewed and twisted beyond the collective noun “queer”. Queer is not a minority of people, and it is no more a dichotomy between genders. The opening film Chavela subverts the public imaginations of queer lifestyles, music, and culture.
Moreover, WMWFF keeps on promoting Taiwanese directors. For our Taiwan Competition, we once again invite international professionals as jury members. The competition aims to introduce more Taiwanese female directors and their works to the world, thus opening up new opportunities.
2017 is the 24th year of Women Make Waves Film Festival, the concept of curation team has altered. Fetters might create pressure, but they also provide valuable potential to release new power. Thank you for always accompanying us, we are looking forward to meeting you at the 24th WMW Film Festival.
