This program features two landmark works that illuminate the history of women’s cinema. One transports us to the 1970s and the inaugural International Women’s Film Seminar—a pivotal moment in history where women film professionals from around the world gathered in West Berlin. The other, produced on the occasion of the 15th Tokyo International Women's Film Festival in the early 2000s, directs its gaze from pre-war Japan to the turn of the millennium, offering an essential overview of women’s cinema in Japan. Together, they transcend time and geography to envision the possibilities of women’s cinema.
