    Housekeepers linger between two worlds every day- their own and that of their patrons. What do we really know about the housekeepers, cleaning and tidying up our houses? What is it like to clean someone else’s dirt? Where do these women come from, and what are their worries, conflicts, consumption habits, and lifelong expectations? By earning their own money, do they gain a measure of independence in a patriarchal society? The answers to these questions will undoubtedly raise awareness towards them, and change our perceptions and prejudices.

    Emel ÇelebI was born and raised in Istanbul. A student of English literature, she has worked in various magazines as author and editor. Although she has recently been involved in a number of documentaries, Housekeeper is her directorial debut.
