Girls Make Media That Matters

Reel Grrls 2006 USA Documentary color 31min English Beta
A compilation of short films made between 2001 and 2005, Girls Make Media That Matters tackles the issues of violence, empowerment, race, identity, body image, and girls in the media from the perspective of teenage girls. All of the films in this compilation were conceived, shot, edited and produced entirely by 14 to 18 year old participants in the Reel Grrls program. The girls are mentored in this work by a network of multi-cultural women media professionals, and they work with a curriculum that explores issues of media literacy, gender inequalities and social inequities.
