Girl or Boy, My Sex is not My Gender

Valérie MITTEAUX 2011 France Documentary color 61min French, English, Spa DigiBeta
Born as female and living in the male gender, that is the path taken by those known as "transboys" who cross the boundary between the genders. Inbetweeners is a three-way portrait of individuals who embody this fluidity and challenge the logic of masculine/feminine.
These inbetweeners are setting up a new mark: when your parents raise you us as girls, how come you behave like a boy? How would you deal with the male advantages that once oppress you? These inbetweeners keep asking the core concepts of the gender. What is the real meaning as man or woman? Why should we face the world in a different way? Can we really correspond to the standards and frameworks build up by gender? Why should everybody worry about those who wonder in the gray areas? Their practice will continue to question and redefine the role of masculine and feminine, as well as challenge the logic of gender. In the film, we witness their honesty to themselves, and talk about their life choices. What an inspiring story!
This film bring new ideas different from traditional cross-gender films, which focus on the mental and physical transitions of trans-genders. It presents how the existence of cross-genders influences the society of sex discrimination. It diversify the community of queers.
