Diving Women of Jeju-do

Barbara Hammer 2007 America Documentary b/w & color 25min English、Korean DCP
For hundreds of years, the women of Jeju Island have dived to the ocean floor without breathing apparatus to collect shellfish, octopus and urchins. But this ancient women’s tradition is about to die out as the elderly divers' daughters do not want to inherit the work, lifestyle and health problems of their parents.
