    The third lm in Peng Xiaolian’s Shanghai Trilogy is based on a true story at the end of the golden age of Chinese cinema as the political turbulence of the late 1940s encroached. The beautiful Wanyu has married into a wealthy family but is irresistibly drawn into the world of the movies and to famous actor Ah Chuan.

    Born in 1953, PENG Xiao-lian graduated from Beijing Film Academy and from New York University. Her work has spanned narrative fiction, animation and documentary. Most recently, she has worked on a trilogy of films about the city of Shanghai, concluding with Shanghai Rumba.
