    After her boyfriend unexpectedly breaks up with her because he’s been dating her best friend, 19-year old Ofka is left to wonder what really matters in life. Wrapped up in her own problems, she takes no notice of the love her closest male friend, Ubr, has for her. Ofka works night shifts at a 24-hour convenience store in modern-day Prague, which inevitably brings her in contact with many unique characters who, like her, are awake when the rest of the city sleeps. Even these odd experiences, though, don’t seem to move her in any way until, one night, the shop is robbed. The film is about love, tenderness, friendship and hope.

    Michaela PAVLÁTOVÁ

    Michaela PAVLÁTOVÁ graduated from the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague in 1987 and immediately began creating animated lms. She came to international prominence in 1991 when her short lm Words, Words, Words was nominated for a U.S. Academy Award. In 1995, her short lm Repete won a Golden Bear at the Berlinale. She has taught animation both in Czech Republic—at the Academy of Performing Arts, Film and TV School and the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design—and abroad— the prestigious Academy of Art College in San Francisco. She works as an art director or for the animation company Wildbrain in San Francisco.
