    Filmmaker Novia CHEN makes Now He is a She, a documentary which shows a separated couple who had struggled with transgender in their lives. Both of the husband and wife are teachers, and they need to face a huge and difficult change. Still, the combined identity of separated couple, teachers, family members, and transgender can’t silence the two people. This documentary tells their unique and touching story and leaves us a question, “what would we do if we have a family member like he/she?” For them, they choose to replace disgrace by understanding. Twenty years has passed, but their story does not finish yet.

    After receiving her M.F.A. in Film Production at the Ohio University School of Film, Novia CHEN has been working as an independent filmmaker in both the United States and Taiwan. She has completed fifteen films, and her films have been screened worldwide at several international festivals. Now He is a She just earned the Best Documentary Award from 2010 Phone Movie Festival.
