“Minganangana” (crab festival) is a ritual during the Tao’s busy flying fish season. The word also signifies “to cheer.” On that day, the Tao women cheer their husbands who catch fish by sumptuous meals of taro cakes and terrestrial crabs for them. This documentary preserves the beautiful custom of the Tao tribe. In this film, we want to introduce not only the origin of “minganangana” but also the role of Tao women, as well as what kinds of preparation they have been making in order to celebrate this day. We hope that the young women of the Tao tribe can learn something from this special cultural custom.
