Joyce MAY is a well-to-do middle aged African American woman living in New York City, a wife and mother of two daughters who returns to her southern roots when she discovers her husband has been cheating on her. She runs away from one source of pain only to find herself on a road trip dealing with her rude and selfish teenage daughter. Joyce May is forced to come to grips with her mentality slow cousin, “Dearie B.”, and the sacrifices made by her mother when she and “Dearie B.” were children.

Julie DASH

Julie DASH was born and raised in New York City, she earned her M.F.A. in Film & Television production at UCLA. DASH is a writer, producer and director. In 1992, with her lm Daughters of the Dust, DASH became the rst African American woman to have a full-length general theatrical release in the United States. It is the most important cinematic achievements in Black Cinema in the 20th century. In 2007, DASH received the Life Time Achievement Award from the Images of Black Women Film Festival in the UK. She was also nominated for Outstanding Directorial Achievement for her lm The Rosa Parks Story.
