The Day Will Come

Susanne SCHNEIDER 2009 Germany, Franch Fiction color 103min German, Franch 35mm
Thirty years after giving her daughter up for adoption in order to join the terrorist underground in Germany, Judith is tracked down by her now adult daughter Alice to a vineyard in the Alsace where she is now living with a new family and a new identity. Alice calls on Judith to give her up, but Judith doesn’t regret any of her past deeds.
The Day Will Come controversially unfolds the tense mother-daughter relationship. Deciding to focus on the undulating emotion of a mother whose identity overlaps political movement, maestro Susan presents the hostile atmosphere between the mother and her daughter. If the mother-daughter plot is overly arranged, so were many of classical motherhood-centered films. Still, The Day Will Come leaves a breath-taking impression.
