Memo to My Son

HSIAO Ru-Chun 2015 Taiwan Documentary color 54min Mandarin HDCAM
This woman detests her marriage and family life. Her husband sometimes yells at her, but sometimes can pick her up; her son is close to her but occupies her body too. This film uses lots of closeup shots; her figure is broken into pieces in her shattered life. Is this film strong enough to prove her misery? Why don't we ask: if her miserable life is not so "miserable" in those typical ways, how could she express her miseries?

Director

HSIAO Ru-Chun

HSIAO was born in 1985. She was a journalist, and now is a photographer. As a female photographer, she strongly notices woman often get involved in the trivial but intense pressure. Her works deal with the situation of woman in the middle-class family. Memo to My Son is her first film, which leads her to create an untypical way of looking at woman.
