Chantal AKERMAN refused to make cinema a political tool, often framing Jewish identity through themes of drift and isolation. But does depoliticization become a stance itself? This two-part video letter mirrors her image-sound split. One revisits the desolate landscape of No Home Movie, revealing it as Palestine’s Al-Naqab desert, now a zone colonized by Israel. The other travels to Masada, a Jewish heritage site, linking to Là-bas and today’s Gaza. As both tribute and critique, the film gently yet pointedly exposes the blind spots in a master’s gaze.
