    Desert of Namibia follows Kana, a 21-year-old woman living in Japan who is utterly bored with everything around her. She has no real desire to achieve anything and can sometimes be cruel and aggressive. It is a portrait of an unidealized Tokyo Gen-Z, a woman struggling against a society that is still rigid and patriarchal. YAMANAKA’s second feature. It premiered at Director's Fortnight and won the FIPRESCI Prize.

    A Japanese filmmaker born in Nagano, Japan in 1997. Amiko is her debut feature film. Since then, she directed a section in an anthology film 21st Century Girl and a short film Born Pisces, before making her second feature Desert of Namibia.
