    I´m Not Feminist, But…

    "I'm not feminist, but..." is an expression used by Christine DELPHY during a TV program with Simone de BEAUVOIR in 1985. This is the ritual sentence numerous women have said, because they are afraid of using a stigmatized word, and yet are willing to express a desire for equality. Christine DELPHY was an active member of the campaign for the right to abortion, which resulted in the legalization of abortion in France. She was the founder of materialist feminism, focusing on the domestic sphere to analyze women's oppression. This portrait tells the history of DELPHY, putting emphasis on past and current struggles in order to achieve equality between men and women.

    Film programmer at Curzon Cinemas in London from 2002 to 2005, Florence TISSOT is now deputy curator at the Paris Cinémathèque. She wrote articles in major cinema journals such as Cahiers du cinéma. Sylvie TISSOT is a professor of Sociology and Political Science at the University of Paris 8. Her researches include inequalities along socio-economic, racial and gender lines.
