Memories Look at Me

SONG Fang 2012 China Fiction color 87min Mandarin DCP
In summer, Fang comes back to her parents' home in Nanjing, to stay with them for a while. Her elder brother's family comes for reunion as well. Her brother who is not often home, gives her a Yengisar Knife as a gift. Her sister-in-law carefully recommends her a blind date. As time goes by, memories come back in the family conversations; some she knows, some not. The present is mixed up with the past, and the steps towards the future may walk along the path of eternal loss. Like the style of the film's producer, JIA Zhangke, SONG, who also acts as the protagonist in the film, uses calm, poetic images to portray the tranquil time she spends with her parents.
