    Rakhshan BANI-ETEMAD 2014 Iran Fiction color 88min Persian DCP
    After 8 years of focusing on making documentaries, the Iran's premier female director finally returns to the narrative feature filmmaking with Tales. Set in Tehran, the film is the story of world's men and women's lives that always have to fight for getting their rights: filmmakers, workers, intellectuals, state employees, social workers...etc. Will the light of love and hope lighten their lives? With a point-of-view perfectly balanced between compassion and objectivity, the film gives a portrait of Iranian working-class society. Rakhshan BANI-ETEMAD was the director-in-focus of WMWFF back in 2004, with her films Nargess, The Blue Veiled , Under the Skin of the City , and Our Times... WMWFF also screened her film Gilaneh in 2006.

    Rakhshan BANI-ETEMAD

    BANI-ETEMAD was born in Tehran in 1954. After studying at the University of Dramatic Arts in Iran, she made several documentaries for Iranian television. In 1987, she directed her first feature film Off Limits, and in 1991, she became the first woman recipient of the best director award at Fajr International Film Festival in Tehran for Nargess. She then directed several films that won numerous awards such as The Blue Veiled (1995), Under the Skin of the City (2000), and Gilaneh (2005). She is the most popular director among Iranians.
