Corinne's Secret

Maike CONWAY 2014 Germany Documentary color 85min German DCP
Corinne is a lively 17-year-old student. She cannot wait to leave her Bavarian village and conquer the world. Corinne is HIV-positive, infected by her mother at birth. Her mother then died of the virus when Corinne was only six years old. Upon adopting Corinne, her foster parents had decided to keep her infection as a secret, in order to protect her from being mobbed. Even today, AIDS is still associated with drugs, prostitution, homosexuality and an underprivileged background. This is why Corinne's foster mother finds it hard to let her daughter leave home: she will no longer be able to protect her from the outside world. However, Corinne is now ready to reveal her secret to her friends. Director Maike CONWAY has accompanied Corinne for more than ten years, revealing her struggles against the virus and for a normal life.
