Elbow

Aslı ÖZARSLAN 2024 Germany, Türkiye, France color 86min DCP
She grew up in Berlin but was never treated as a German, facing discrimination due to her Türkiyeish heritage. On her 18th birthday, her frustration over all the rejections erupts into an irreversible accident. Adapted from an award-winning contemporary German novel, Elbow deeply portrays the racial issues faced by immigrant youth. The protagonist isn’t a “perfect victim,” adding layers of moral ambiguity to the film.
