Voices of the Silenced

PARK Maeui PARK Soo-nam 2023 Japan, South Korea color 142min DCP
As a second-generation Zainichi, PARK interviewed countless compatriots about their colonized experiences, creating powerful records for the voiceless. Nearing ninety and facing blindness, she struggles with managing her extensive archive. Her daughter helps digitize nearly fifty hours of 16mm film, giving new life to these memories. Directed by mother and daughter, Voices of the Silenced reveals familial reconciliation and the passing of the torch as documentarians.
