In June 1977, a van drove into a river near the Atikamekw community of Manawan in northern Quebec. Two white men survived, but five Atikamekw lost their lives. Despite suspicious circumstances, police declared it an accident, leaving the victims' families with unanswered questions. Based on true events, Atikamekw Suns blends documentary and fiction, realism and magic, into a poignant spiritual elegy that explores grief and systemic injustice.
