The director of this Lettriste film, was aged 90 when she made it, and her whole life had been a continuous application of the phrase Picabia inscribed on one of his paintings: "I only draw upon myself" . Over extremely rare footage of several Lettriste events (retrospective at the Musée national d'Art moderne in 1968, with poetry recitations and slide-shows of letters and signs projected onto a mime-artists), Suzanne Lemaître evokes all the creative women in History through the example of Joan of Arc. Other equally rare footage shows the filmmaker with her daughter, the director of another Lettriste film, Le témoin ou la timide espérance (1984), and her son, the great Lettriste creative genius Maurice Lemaître.
