If 6 was 9(Jos 6 Olis 9)

Eija-Liisa Ahtila 1995 Finland Experimental b/w 10min
If 6 Was 9 is a video installation and short film about teenage girls and sexuality. It is based on research and real events, but the story itself and the dialogues are a fictional combination of various elements. The film offers a glimpse into the lives of girls on the threshold of womanhood, exploring their sexual fantasies, memories, habits, hopes and dreams. It shows an ongoing metamorphosis from childhood to adulthood. The girls want to possess the world, to embrace it with their arms, legs, cheeks, tits and arses. Their hopes, memories, thoughts, and events in their lives form a non-chronological narrative fabric, and the installation space becomes a "body" of separate parts, each moving at a different pace and rhythm.

Eija-Liisa Ahtila

Born 1959 in Hämeenlinna, Finland, is a visual artist and filmmaker based in Finland who produces photographs and video or film installations that fill and subvert gallery spaces. She describes her films as 'human dramas', and combines the objectivity of a documentary maker with the imaginary visualizations of a psychologist. Details of daily living, accounts of surreal activities and evidence of states of mind are brought together and enhanced by the cinematic and televisual qualities of the media she uses.
