Casa Blanca

Aleksandra MACIUSZEK 2015 Poland Documentary color 60min Spanish DCP
Casa Blanca is a forgotten town situated at the entrance of La Habana’s bay. The film tells the story of Nelsa – a 76-year-old woman, partially paralyzed and sick, and his son Vladimir, a 36-year-old man with Down syndrome who takes care of her. Their relationship is not free from conflict. Nelsa's overprotective nature tries to control Vladimir, who spends his time away from home with the local fishermen learning their trade and also their vices. His drinking habits and misbehavior are the main sources of conflict with Nelsa and the local community, who strongly believe that they should be separated and sent to a center for handicapped individuals. One day Nelsa’s condition worsens, and Nelsa's relatives will arrive in town with the intention of changing their lives. They will encounter resistance.
