Tomlinson's eerie, stirring interpretation of the well-known Emily Dickinson poem was made with animated clay on glass. Narrated from after the moment of death, the film shows the visceral darkness of the natural world.

Lynn Tomlinson

Lynn Tomlinson, an independent animator and director of Summer Kitchen Studio, is known for her work in clay-on-glass animation. Spreading colored modeling clay on a light table, she creates images that are vibrant and tactile, like moving finger paintings or animated stained glass. Tomlinson was educated at Cornell University, the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, and the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg School for Communication. She lives in Orlando, Florida most of the year, and spend the summers in Ithaca, NY, where she teaches animation of Cornell University. Before moving to Florida, she taught animation in Philadelphia for ten years.
