Monitoring Seaborders

Susanna SCHOENBERG 2015 Germany Experimental Documentary color 9min Spanish DCP
The external borders of the European Union are controlled by a complex system consisting of visualisation equipment, automated installations, and communication devices. Monitoring Seaborders is a 2-channel video-installation of variable size. One channel is showing the (invisible) water border from the perspective of a vessel of the Guardia Civil; the other channel is dedicated to the displays of the control room in Algeciras, coordinating the operations on water. Officials discuss off-screen the movement of refugees. This is a sober, exceptionally forceful commentary on the current wave of migration.
