Yong-hi visits her mother in Osaka every month after her father passed away in 2009 leaving them alone in Japan. Unlike her father, the mother happily welcomes her Japanese fiancé in the house, preparing the soup for them while setting “different ideologies” aside. One day, her mother suddenly revealed an old-time buried secret happened back at hometown, the Jeju Uprising, a memory the daughter never knew about....

YANG Yong-hi

As a second-generation Korean in Japan, YANG's works often explore diasporic experiences of Korean and Japanese families. She has also published one novel and three books related to family stories. Her films are recognized by festivals including the Berlinale and the Oscar.
