Thank You and Good Night

Jan OXENBERG 1991 USA color 78min English DCP
A journey that takes us through the last moments before death, Thank You and Good Night ventures to defeat death and never say goodbye. Narrated by a cardboard cutout of OXENBERG’s scowling child self, OXENBERG's docu-fantasy debut is a lost-and-found revelation and a classic of independent cinema. It received early applause from Sundance and the IFFR in 1991 but then remained undiscovered until recently.

Director

Jan OXENBERG

A Jewish filmmaker, producer, and screenwriter, OXENBERG was born in Brooklyn in 1950 and graduated from CalArts. Openly a lesbian, she actively participates in feminist movements and often creates works on queer themes. Her short debut Home Movie was recognized as one of the first lesbian feminist films of all time.
