Bette GORDON James BENNING 1974 USA color 3min English DCP
While still a film student in the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the mid-1970s, Bette GORDON colloaborated with James BENNING on several experimental projects, using structuralist approaches to tell the stories of landscape, metropolis, and eroticism. I-94 uses optical printing effects to create intercourse between two people who never appear on the screen at the same time, exploring sex and male/female identities.

A pioneer in American Independent Cinema and one of the most notable filmmakers from the "No Wave Movement" in the 1980s New York, GORDON is known for her bold explorations of themes related to sexuality, violence and power.

James BENNING

An important independent filmmaker, BENNING is legendary for his formal rigor, structuralist approach and landscape mastery.
