    The Return of Gods and Ancestors: Paiwan Five Year Ceremony

    The five year ceremony "Maleveq" is the largest ceremony of the Paiwan perople. On the one hand, they expected to receive blessings from the gods and ancestors; on the other, they tried to prevent any harm caused by evil spirits. It also celebrates the meeting of tradition and modernity. The Return of Gods and Ancestor is the first ethnographic film made in Taiwan.

    HU Tai-Li

    An anthropologist, curator, writer, professor and a documentary filmmaker. HU was a founding member of Taiwan International Ethnographic FF. She was a research fellow at the Institute of Ethnology, Academia Sinica, and a board member of Taiwan Women's Film Association. Her works centre on themes of women, indigenous people, veterans, and the land, and have won numerous awards worldwide.
