Passing Through My Mother-in-law's Village

HU returned to her mother-in-law's village Liu Ts'o, where she did anthropological research from 1976-78, to preserve images of transformation and life forever. An attempt to reavel the Taiwanese way of facing drastic social changes, Passing Through My Mother-in-law's Village is the first documentary in Taiwan to have a commercial theatrical release.

Director

HU Tai-Li

An anthropologist, curator, writer, professor and a documentary filmmaker. HU was a founding member of Taiwan International Ethnographic FF. She was a research fellow at the Institute of Ethnology, Academia Sinica, and a board member of Taiwan Women's Film Association. Her works centre on themes of women, indigenous people, veterans, and the land, and have won numerous awards worldwide.
