The Blue Inmates

Zeina DACCACHE 2021 Lebanon color 76min Arabic DCP
The film follows the inmates from Roumieh Prison in Lebanon who produce a therapeutical play about their fellow prisoners who are perceived as "mad and possesssed" and are forgotten behind the bars for life. The Blue Inmates attempts to destigmatize the mentally-illed and provide an empathetic look at the inmates' situation. The screenplay was based on the conversations between the filmmaker and the inmates. It also exposes the problematic judiciary system in Lebanon.
