Women Make Waves International Film Festival

Program

Deborah Phillips 2002 Germany Experimental color 5min 16mm
"NOOR" means light in Persian. While in Iran, the filmmaker was taken to a beautiful restored house which had been bombed in the Iran-Iraq war. In this house, the play of light on the numerous mirrors and walls inspired the filmmaker. Using light and color, together with flowers, she made this film to induce hope. (Much of the material was filmed on 16mm, often by animating photographs, but some of it, such as the material from Iran, was shot on Super 8 and re-worked on an optional printer. The film is an attempt for the filmmaker find something to put her hope in.)
