Desire of Egg

Wong Choi Fung 2003 Hong Kong Documentary color 37min DV
The 25-year-old filmmaker, Wong Choi Fung, uses a DV camera to shoot herself, in a way just like talking to a lover, to show the natural desire for sex, the fear and thirst for giving birth and the constraints society gives to women. This film challenges the originally private area of the female body and the patriarchal concept of sexual desire by home video. It breaks down the past barriers on morality by presenting women's most concealed behaviors actively and undisguisedly through mass media. As video-recording machines gradually popularize, image shooting and independent film production are also available to all. Meanwhile, with the flourishing of broadcasting channels on the Internet, privacy and moral taboos will face stiffer questioning and challenges. How to separate this from the porno websites and the images of Internet sexual intercourse would be a question for audiences to discuss and to respond to.
