For centuries Taiwan has been familiar to the world as Formosa derived from the Portuguese "llha Formosa" - meaning beautiful island. Over its history, Taiwan become a melting pot of people, including the aborigines, Han and Hakka people who have shaped Taiwan's rich and varied culture. In recent decades, a group the "New Immigrants" have been drawn to Taiwan by the prospect of a brighter future - foreign brides rom China, Vietnam, Indonesia. and other countries in Asia. Many of them face such challenges as language barriers and cultural differences but remain alienated from the society at large. Before they can set down their roots firmly in this beautiful island, the brides have to travel a long journey on which they meet a myriad challenges and hurdles before the social stigma attached to foreign brides can even be confronted. It seems that could cost them a lot more than they expected to leave home and to look for better life Formosa.

Chia-Ying You

Chia Ying You was born in 1980 in Nan Tou city, Taiwan. She recently graduated with BA in Communication Arts from Chaoyang University in 2004. She not only took diverse courses, including commercial and film theory, but also attended film production activities outside of school, joining the production team of a feature film "Under 18" as a Producer in 2001. In addition to that, she also completed an internship in a local TV production company, where she learned a great deal about TV production and also practiced her photographic skills with the professionals.
