Let's Get Real

Debra Chasnoff 2003 U.S.A Documentary color 35min English Betacam
Following Michael Moore, who explores the roots of America's predilection for gun violence in the film “Bowling for Columbine”, Debra Chasnoff once again accuses the school of its speech violence. In this film, the interviewed students dismantle their psychological defense gradually and talk about their sufferings in school. The cases include the Jewish students who are most of the time discriminated, the students who are defamed by their peers’ rumors, the rejection and conflict between different races etc. These students accuse their teachers of being indifferent and incompetent and mention their despair and self-doubt when they are oppressed. Some victims, alone and helpless, turn to be the ones who oppress others. Some try to release themselves by committing suicide, and still others recover from their wounds and turn to protect other victims. This film conveys a serious message: that is, unless the adults take this problem seriously and take some actions, these children cannot escape from various kinds of campus violence and the school turns into a hell.
