Someone Else's Shinjuku East(Women's Version)

Michelle CHU Yang Li-Chou 2003 Taiwan Documentary color 66min Chinese DCP
In the days before Taiwan'seconomy took off, many people migrated to Toyko in search of work and wealth. More than thousand bars were emerged by Taiwanese in Kabukicho alone. Mired in the depths of Japanese society, these men and women were despised by the Japanese and forgotten by other Taiwanese. In the true documentary spirit, the film was shot slowly and deliberately from a number of angles, gaining the trust of these Shinjuku ex-patriates and capturing many never-before see images of their lives. Though the most moving and stark elements of the story were concentrated through editing.
