Kim Longinotto 1976 Enland Documentary b/w 59min English 16mm
This documentary, lasting for nearly one hour, observes the UK system of boarding schools through the perspective of a group of young girls. It completely presents the viewpoints of students, teachers, and parents. Beside the thorough exploration of various kinds of phenomena. It is also produced in a cute and humorous way and was finished after several months of tight shooting by only two people, Dorothea Gazidis and Kim Longinotto. In this documentary, we can take a look at Longinotto’s style in her earlier works. It also entered lots of film festivals such as those in Edinburgh London, and Sydney the year when it was released.

Kim Longinotto

Kim Longinotto studied camera and directing at England's National Film School. In 1986, Longinotto formed the production company Twentieth Century Vixen with Claire Hunt. Together they made Fireraiser, a look at the bombing of Dresden; Eat the Kimono, about the controversial Japanese feminist performer Hanayagi Genshu; Hidden Faces, the internationally acclaimed, collaborative documentary with/about Egyptian women; and The Good Wife of Tokyo in which they examine women, love and marriage in Japanese society.
