    Under the skin of the city

    Everybody all has thought good life, but for such desire, how many prices have to pay? The film charts the story of Tuba, a wife and mother, who supports her family by working hard all day in a factory. Tuba's husband fools around every day, so the whole family is sustained by Tuba alone. Her eldest son Abbas vainly hoped for goes to remote Japan, he calculates is gaining the great money to be able not to worry the food and clothing-believing that Japan holds more profitable opportunities than Iran. Abbas is part of the burgeoning group of young Iranians who desperately try to escape their home country in search of financial prosperity.
    To raise money for the visa and the ticket, he plans to sell Tuba's little house with his good-for-nothing father. Tuba's husband thus beats her. But Tuba loves her child. Even though her son makes her life into a very difficult situation, she still supports him without any complaints…

    Rakhshan BANI-ETEMAD

    BANI-ETEMAD was born in Tehran in 1954. After studying at the University of Dramatic Arts in Iran, she made several documentaries for Iranian television. In 1987, she directed her first feature film Off Limits, and in 1991, she became the first woman recipient of the best director award at Fajr International Film Festival in Tehran for Nargess. She then directed several films that won numerous awards such as The Blue Veiled (1995), Under the Skin of the City (2000), and Gilaneh (2005). She is the most popular director among Iranians.
