Sometimes love is question of the time in which one lives. Thousands of apple trees as far as the eye can see when the German Democratic Republic still existed. Lena and Heinz meet while working and a great passionate love begins. But Sienke is there, lord of trees and of the people who live from them. He desires Lena, and she gives in. Not until the fall of the Berlin Wall, after which thousands of apple trees are sacrificed for new construction, does love return to Heinz and Lena - a love with sorrow and rage. It will be a different love, but under apple trees, like before.
