Festival Time
The 31st Women Make Waves Int'l Film Festival, presented by Taiwan Women's Film Association, will be held in Taipei, Taiwan in October, 2024.
Eligibility
◆ The films submitted need to be directed at least by One FEMALE (including self-identifying female) Director. For Queer films, filmmakers of all genders are welcome.
◆ Date of Completion: No earlier than 1st March 2022.
◆ Premiere Status: A Taiwan Premiere is required. The film should not have been screened, broadcasted, or available online in any form, for any period of time in Taiwan before the festival.
◆ WMWIFF is open to all forms, styles, lengths, and formats. Anything related to LGBTQI communities, women themes and topics related to gender, feminism and beyond, and current events around the world that reflect the status quo.
Entry Fee and Deadline
◆ Entry Fee: USD$15 or NTD$450.
◆ The deadline for submission is 06 March 2024.
◆ Please be noted that our online entry system will automatically shut down at 23:59 (GMT+8).

◆ Or, the entrants can also submit via our FilmFreeway (https://filmfreeway.com/WomenMakeWavesFilmFestivalTaiwan). Please make sure to have an online screener available and include as much information as possible.
How to Pay the Entry Fee
◆ If you submit via FilmFreeway, you will complete the payment through its website.
◆ If you submit via filling out the entry form on our Official Website, after you submit the entry form, you will receive the payment link from us through email. Please complete the payment by following the instructions in the email.
◆ Your entry will only be accepted if WMWIFF receives complete entry form (including valid screeners) AND entry fees on time.
Entry Guideline
◆ All films by individuals or companies are welcome.
◆ An online screener is required. Please do not change the URL or password. Incomplete applications will not be taken into consideration.
◆ Chinese or English subtitles are required for non-Mandarin or non-English speaking films.
◆ It is the sole responsibility of the applicant to secure clearance from the copyright holders of any copyrighted materials included within the submitted film. WMWIFF will not be held responsible for the unauthorized inclusion of any copyrighted materials within or relating to the submitted film.
◆ The entrant agrees to all the rules and regulations stated in this Entry Guidelines. Violation of this Entry Guideline may result in disqualification from the selection.
Authorization and Obligation
◆ Film Selection Status: All films will be notified with the selection status no later than July 2024. Please do not disclose the film’s selection to third parties before the announcement by WMWIFF.
◆ The entrant is required to provide up-to-date and accurate information about the film.
◆ After the selection, the festival has the right to:
● screen the selected film during the festival and the screening fee is automatically waived. Entrants of the shortlisted films are required to sign an authorization form correspondingly.
● download, compile, and publicly present the publicity materials for marketing, promotional, and exhibition purposes. The publicity materials will be used in areas including but not limited to festival publicity, media reports, filing, and archiving with no restriction on the territory and duration of use.
● produce and keep a Chinese and/or English-subtitled of the selected film for screening purposes during the festival. The copy will be archived and will not be publicly screened without consent from the rightsholder in advance.
● archive all submitted screeners and materials for internal previews and future academic research.
◆ Minority Benefit Screening:
Some of the films will be chosen for screening to the disadvantaged outside the capital between late October to December. All the minority benefit screening is free of charge, and the screening time and audience are limited.
◆ Required Materials:
The publicity materials below should be provided within two weeks after confirming the selection:
● At least 3 high-resolution film stills (with 300 dpi files)
● Synopsis of the film in English
● Director’s profile and filmography in English
● A frontal portrait of the director (high-resolution file with 300 dpi)
● Full casts and credits list
● English subtitled trailer or excerpts in MOV or MP4
● Completed dialogue list in original language AND English
● Festival and award records
● Additional materials such as film reviews, press kits, or posters
◆ Screening Materials:
DCP or the highest quality file in DPX, MOV/ProRes 444, 422(HQ) is required. The deadline for receiving is before mid-August either by post or internet. The content of the screening copy should match that of the screener submitted for entry. WMWIFF reserves the right to determine the eligibility of the film if this is violated.
◆ Shipping costs:
WMWIFF won't cover any shipping costs during the submission stage. For films selected for our festival, we will cover the print's shipping costs (custom tax included) to and from the original print source only. Please note that WMWIFF will NOT be responsible for any shipping costs (custom tax included) for the next destination.
◆Please Note
WMWIFF reserves the right to modify or substitute any of the rules and regulations stated in this Entry Guideline when necessary. WMWIFF also has the right to interpret and decide all matters relating to the Entry Guideline, selection process, competition results, and method of screening.
